Volunteering in University

Moving to a new city was initially intimidating, but volunteering allowed me to integrate into my new community and build a sense of belonging. I have met many amazing people and made new friends while pursuing my passion for volunteering. Through the University of Calgary, I have volunteered at a Community Clean-Up, at Eco-Moveout, as a Check-In Crew member, as an Orientation Leader, and, most recently, I have joined Student Wellness Services on the Peer Events and Outreach Team. Additionally, I began volunteering with Alberta Children's Hospital in early 2024. Furthermore, I am Co-President of Birthday Wishes. Birthday Wishes is a student-run organization devoted to providing underprivileged children from financially insecure homes with a birthday party. We believe that birthday parties can bring great joy to a child's life and create lasting memories. As a club, we provide students who have a passion for giving back to their community a place to be able to meet and volunteer together. We partner with organizations, like Children's Birthday Miracles, to sponsor birthday parties and offer members volunteer opportunities. We also hold events for members and host fundraisers for our causes. Through the club, I also had the privilege of volunteering at Brenda's Shelter - a family shelter in Calgary. The club was able to provide stuffed animals and help out at their Holiday Party.

I am looking forward to continuing to volunteer and make a difference in my new city!
